References: "The Canadian truck was going to leave for Chengdu - our new home - on Saturday. So Mr. McCurdy reserved places for us in the back of the truck. It was a three hundred mile ride over gravel roads. Half way there we stayed overnight in a church. Then on Sunday afternoon, we arrived on the campus of the West China Union University in the ancient city of Chengdu, in Sichuan Province. Those who met us were subdued. It was a sad time to arrive, for many of the university residents were attending a funeral for the wife of the university professor of pharmacy."
