"A prayer is being offered to Mei Shan, the god who helps the hunters capture wild animals alive. Mei Shan was, of course, the patron deity of the panda hunt. The god is represented by the flat slab of stone against the wall and an offering of meat and wine is being made to him. The ceremony took place just before the panda hunt started."
