Description: Section of narrow gauge tracks of the Chuan-Han Railway (川汉铁路) at Yichang, showing lack of reinforcement to the banks. Some grave mounds can be seen on the bank above the tracks at upper right.
Commentary: This short section of the railway was completed in 1911 and abandoned due to bankruptcy soon after. The engineering was faulty and parts of the embankments swept away during a rain storm. It's not clear whether the railroad was still in operation when E. Kyle Simpson passed through Yichang in February of 1913.
