US troops inside the Douglas C-54 Skymaster that took them over "The Hump" from Kunming to Calcutta. The plane has a large domed roof and benches along the sides on which the men are seated. Some of them appear to be reading letters.
Commentary
When the war ended, almost all US troops were flown out of China from Kunming to Calcutta, where they waited for a steamer to take them to New York. He didn't know it at the time, but this was the last time Don Willmott was in China until 1978.
