Commentary: The Stinsons were travelling back from furlough after the end of WWII when former Airforce planes, such as this Curtiss C-46 Commando, were repurposed for civilian travel. This plane was probably used to fly over "The Hump" in the Himalayas during the war, and may not have been serviced since then.
