David and Dora Stinson at the Hankow Airport

Item

Title
David and Dora Stinson at the Hankow Airport
Identifier
DS_057
Description
David Stinson (2 years old) and Dora Stinson (7 years old) exchange a smile as they wait on the tarmac for their Curtiss C-46 Commando to be refueled at Hankow, enroute between Shanghai and Chongqing. Men in army uniform and work clothes are walking by in the background near the plane.
Commentary
The Stinsons were travelling back from furlough after the end of WWII when former Airforce planes, such as this Curtiss C-46 Commando, were repurposed for civilian travel. This plane was probably used to fly over "The Hump" in the Himalayas during the war, and may not have been serviced since then.
