Description
-
A group of four servants employed by the Jones. The man seated left front wears a scholars' gown, vest and cloth shoes. He is sitting in formal posture to indicate his relatively high status as the cook, head of household. The household "amah" or "daniang" is sitting right front. She is wearing traditional dress consisting of a short jacket over trousers with bound feet. The two men standing behind them are dressed the same as the cook. They pose on a stone porch in front of a shuttered window.

Commentary
-
In the front row seated are the cook, who is the head servant, and the amah, who takes care of children and does the sewing. In the back row are two men, one for serving the cook mainly inside the house, and the other a gate and yard man who would also run errands and possibly take care of cows and other animals.
