Description
-
Gordon Jones and his Chinese language teacher sit at a table with books. Gordon is writing with a pen. There is an ornamental fireplace and couch in the room. The back of Gordon's head and Edwin Meuser taking the photo can be seen in the mirror in the background.

Commentary
-
The queue was mandatory under the Manchu rulers of the Qing Dynasty. Therefore cutting one's queue off was a potent symbol of rebellion during the revolution.
