Title
Houseboat on Yangtze Above Chongqing
Caption
Memo: The houseboat hired for our party was larger than the average. It had to have room for eight people in our party of missionaries - all women - four teachers, two trained nurses, all newcomers to China and one experienced missionary. Because of its over size our houseboat was nick-named "Jumbo." It was always the last one in the group of houseboats travelling together to arrive at the safe anchoring place for the night. Crew of an average size passenger houseboat from Chungking to Kiating: A Captain; A Pilot; A Steersman; 9 sailors who remain aboard; 10 men who man the little boat that carried the big tow rope and the "trackers" to the shore; 21 trackers who "tracked" or walked along the shore and pulled the tow line that pulled the boat.
