Description
Photographs in the collection of David Spooner, son of Roy and Kathleen Spooner, who lived and worked in Chengdu, Sichuan, 1931 to 1945.
Abstract
Roy was a chemistry professor at WCUU who conducted applied research on indigo dying and hide tanning, two of the local industries. Kathleen worked in the library and made a very significant collection of blue and white Sichuanese cross-stitch textiles, which is now at the Museum of Anthropology, UBC.

Provenance
David Spooner holds the originals. Zhang Yingming scanned the images for the Old China Photo Project in 2007. Some of the images appeared in the OCPP book, Chengdu, My Home.
