It is included in the story of the evacuation because at the start of the conflict, the British consul in Chengdu ordered all missionaries to move to this hospital. 225 English-speaking missionaries resided in the unfinished building from Sept. 2nd to Nov. 17th when they were allowed to return to their own homes.
