Description
-
A group of workmen hold pounding implements while another pair of workers adjusts a level on the ground to ensure that the new tennis courts will be flat. Since the men wear queues, we can tell that this is before the 1911 Republican Revolution. Buildings of the WCUU can be seen in the background

Commentary
-
Although the photograph has written on it "workers building the hospital," the label on the scanned image, as well as in Alfred John's caption list, says this is building the tennis court. The latter attribution is more likely given the activities the men are performing and the fact that tennis was a daily activity among these missionaries.
