Provenance
-
Olin Stockwell took many of these images with a camera and color film that he brought back to China from his furlough in the USA. He and his wife Esther were on the Marine Lynx in the fall of 1946 - the first steamer to return missionaries to China after WWII. Olin's wife Esther must have taken the negatives out of China because late in 1950 Olin was arrested and detained in a communist prison for almost two years (1951-1952). Therefore, the date range of the images can be calculated with a high degree of precision.
